Thumpermonkey & Djevara at The Fox

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

The Painted Lady presents... Djevara, Thumpermonkey Lives!, Poino What a weekend!  Tonight (sat 28th August) sees Djevara return to one of the best small venues in South London, The Fox & Firkin (Lewisham), with an astonishing line-up which includes our absolute favourite band Thumpermonkey Lives! (new record out on GENIN on Mon 6th Sept! It’s awesome!) and Poino who feature Chuckles (of The Display Team, who also have a fantabulous record out through the Genin stables!).  Could be too awesome for words.

New albums in September from Thumpermonkey Lives! and She Makes War

Monday, August 9th, 2010

September is rolling up to be one heck of a musical month with two more exciting, underground releases promised: Thumpermonkey Lives! new record “We Bake Our Bread Beneath Her Holy Fire” be up on 6th September through Genin Records.  The album is not anything but phenomenal, without question the best underground release this writer has ever heard – ingenius and witty songwriting, beautiful production, astonishing execution and utterly rocks.  It’s hard to describe, but imagine Frank Zappa, David Bowie and Queen were asked to collaborate to do a B-movie soundtrack for metalheads and you’ll be in the ball-park area, but with only a fractional idea of how good it is.  Honestly a loss to anyone who doesn’t hear this.

On 1st September solo female DIY artist She Makes War releases her long-awaited debut “Disarm” after an impressive online video series of singles.  Excitement has beeen buzzing all over the net, and little wonder – with its own unique style and character, this is fantastically earthy, grungey alternative pop straight from the underground, like a crossbreed between the sounds of Nine Inch Nails, Carina Round and with a hint of the spirit of Riot girl, but with a feisty, independent London edge.  The London DIY scene is desperately under-representative of female artistry and this is a record which will deservedly assert to redress the balance!

Live Showcase @ LFD : Fri 1st August

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

(from LFD website – by Geoff)

LFD Showcase – Friday 1st August

So, we’re back. Our first showcase for 7 months. Why the break?

The showcases are about the music. And teh good tiome, of course, but primarily the music. Last year we managed to almost stick to our goal of one a month, but I became aware of the normal levels of antipathy towards them. As with anythig that occurs regularly, the impetus to get to the next one is diminished if you know that there will be another one along soon.

I am also very wary of making the events an excuse for a piss up. While we certainly want to give everyone who comes here the freedom to enjoy the night without the usual downers of door entry or a bar, there is a reason why we do it and it isn’t to give people a free hedonistic night out.

We have had many great bands in the past, and now it’s time for some more. I won’t go into detailed bios of each, you can link to them yourself. All are included because they have caught our imagination in some way.

Elephant vs Leopard

They Died Too Young

Roll Call For The Second Site

Dr. Slaggleberry

for those familiar with the format, the usual applies. For thise not, we’ll open up around 8pm. We have no bar, so bring your own drinks, and a friend. There is no charge (though a £2 donation is recommended), and it exists to show the live bands in an appropriately rule-free environment.

Art Jam : Thursdays @ The Low Fidelity Disconnect

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Thursdays @ LFD : Art Jam

From this week The Low Fidelity Disconnect will be hosting “Art Jam” on Thursdays. To encourage and foster artistic expression we’ll be opening the doors for artists to come down and create! There’s no rules, no agenda, no judgement, and in fact no real specific aim other than to open a space within which to express yourself and have some fun with your creativity. The idea is very simple – if you get a few creative people in one place at one time, it’ll create an atmosphere conducive to creativity! We envisage it’ll start very small and grow slowly, but we aim to build up a community which will enthuse and encourage members and generate a warm, productive environment and stand in contrast to commercial or state-run institutionalized art projects.

So, bring your paints, pens, pads and tools, some music, something to drink and something to eat, whatever you need, and come join the fun.

Times: roughly midday to early evening. It’s loose ‘cos we’re artists not bankers.

LFD will also be putting on exhibitions of artists within the coming months, and other art projects are in the pipeline (ideas are also welcome!). The LFD space is also available on a hire basis for artists, teachers, film makers, etc on other days of the week. Contact us for more details.

PS by “artist” we don’t mean you have to have a degree or be a professional or anything like that. Anyone who wants to create ‘art’ (whatever that means) is welcome.
